Jorge, founder of Munay
Munay, translated from Quechua, meaning to love. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and founder of this very successful Peruvian snack corporation. Jorge starting selling quinoa based snacks to his friends in college and that's where it all began. He kick-started Munay in 2005 right out of his home in Lima and now it is up and running in Urubamba.
Jorge is happily married and has two adorable kids (4 & 8 years old). He strives to make delicious products of the highest quality with the fruits, grains, and nuts from Peru and other neighboring countries. Any quesitions? Contact Jorge through his Facebook page!
These are a few examples of some of his products. They are packaged right out of his home with the help of his mere 7 employees (one of them being the delivery guy).
Jorge sells so many healthy and delicious products, but his most popular is his homemade granola and energy bars. He sells at least 400 kilos every month (that's nearly 900 lbs!)

Cleansing the body, mind, and spirit
Felipe, Vegan ChefThis 23 year old self-taught vegan chef was able to open my mind to proper nutrition and cleansing that can improve my health and way of thnking. Felipe lives in a small town right outside of Urubamba and was able to teach me about the different energies in our food and body and what foods I should be staying away from. Take a look at the next few pictures to get into the Felipe State Of Mind. | Energy BoostA few days after learning about the value of providing your body with the RIGHT kind of energy, we decided to get a little crazy with some ingredients that Felipe introduced to us. Here you see a locally grown banana topped with quinoa sprouts, a cocoa bean, and an almond! This delicious little snack provided us with enough energy to finish our hike to some tourist-free ruins near Chinchero. I'll definitely continue to snack on this back in the states! | GerminadosGerminados, or sprouts, can be the easiest and most nutritious go-to snack. They can be grown from essentially any type of bean, grain, or seed. Felipe told us that in just a few days, these sprouts contain the maximum amount of energy that they will ever have. All the grain needs is a little water, full access to oxygen and a dark place to grow. When the grain is in the darkness, it is tricked to thinking it's underground and begins to sprout. Give it a try! |

Organic IngredientsDuring my session with Felipe we used nearly all of these ingredients to create nutritious smoothies, hydrating face masks, a vegan soup, and even the liquid used for enemas... That's right.. enemas! Although I did not take up the opportunity to get an enema I learned how it's done and also other forms of cleansing that don't involve hoses! | Power SoupThis weird looking goop was surprisingly delicious and I wanted to go back for thirds! You're looking at a vegan power soup that we made from avocado, lentil sprouts, cucumber, almond milk (that we made), green apple, salt from local salt flats, kombucha, and spirulina. I could not get enough of this creamy green goop! All we did was blend all of those ingredients, super easy and a healthy form of energy that will go a long way! |
